Hear Explosions in the Sky, an instrumental rock band, right here in the Old City on Monday, March 12 in the Lightner Museum.

Not sure you've heard of the music? Mark Smith (guitar), Michael James (bass), Munaf Rayani (guitar) and Christopher Hrasky (drums) are best known for writing the soundtrack for the 2004 Peter Berg film "Friday Night Lights." If you didn't see the movie, one of their tracks also is used in a recent Cadillac television advertisement.

Members named their band on July 4, 1999 after appearing on a college radio show in Midland, Texas. Fireworks were exploding as they left the studio.

Touring the world and currently in the sunshine state, Explosions in the Sky comes to us after an appearance in Ybor City and fresh from the Langerado Music Festival in Sunrise, near Ft. Lauderdale.

"Explosions in the Sky have forged a brand of instrumental rock that's a thousand times more lyrical, whispering and breathing more than it screams and shocks," said Michael Chamy from the Austin (Texas) Chronicle, in a 2003 story titled "Born on the fourth of July."The band's sixth album, "All Of A Sudden I Miss Everyone," was released this year. The concert is sponsored in part by the St. Johns Cultural Council. Word has it that the show is nearly sold out. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the music starts at 7:30 in the Alcazar area of Lightner Museum.

Tickets are $10. To check on tickets, call 826-4116 or go online at stjohnsculturalcouncil.tickets.musictoday.com.
