About the St. Johns County “Directory of the Arts”

 

Who We Are

The St. Johns County “Directory of the Arts” is a project of the St. Johns Cultural Council.  The Cultural Council is a 501C3, not-for-profit corporation, and is the designated Local Arts Agency for St. Johns County with funding provided by local individuals, organizations, state and federal grants. The St. Johns County Directory of the Arts is funded in part by a gift from the St. Johns Cultural Council Board of Directors.

 

Purpose

We allow selected artists (“Artists”) in a variety of disciplines to post their information and/or representations of their art (“Artist Worksamples”) on this website (“Website”). We permit Users who agree to these Terms of Use to view such Artist Worksamples on this Website. Users may also contact the Artists directly to purchase artwork or art-related services. Any communications or transactions between Users and Artists are handled between the Users and the Artists and we are not involved and take no responsibility whatsoever in connection with those activities.

WHAT IS THE ST. JOHNS COUNTY “DIRECTORY OF THE ARTS”?

It is the only multi-disciplinary on-line artist, cultural organization and venue database in St. Johns County. The directory is a tool to promote the work of visual, performing, and literary artists living in St. Johns County. It is also designed to network artists, audiences, cultural organizations and artistic venues. This valuable resource provides a platform for artists to connect with museums, galleries, organizations, architects, developers, community organizations, businesses and, of course, other artists.


WHERE CAN I FIND THE APPLICATION FORMS?

Visit our website - www.stjohnsculturalcouncil.org and select the approriate link under the "Directory of the Arts" Section.

 

WHAT ARTISTS ARE ELIGIBLE TO JOIN THE REGISTRY?

In order to join the registry, artists must be full or part-time residents of  St. Johns County. Artists of all disciplines and at all career levels, from emerging to professional are welcome.

 

CAN ONE ARTIST BE LISTED AS AN INDIVIDUAL AND A GROUP?

Yes, if you are an individual artist as well as part of a group, then you would be required to submit two different applications to the registry – one as an individual artist with examples of your individual work and another as a group with examples of the group’s work.

 

WHAT IF I AM A LITERARY ARTIST AND DO NOT HAVE ANY IMAGES?

We strongly suggest literary artists to upload at least one image to their portfolio.  Suggestions include the cover of their book or an author photo. As a user searches the database, a thumbnail image will appear along with contact information. It is recommended that at least one image be provided to be used as a thumbnail.

 

ARE ARTIST APPLICATIONS REVIEWED?

Upon receipt of the application, a staff member of the Cultural Council will review all applications to determine that all applicant information was included in the application process, that the support materials are consistent with the descriptions provided, and to ensure that the submissions are compatible with the purpose of the registry.  Questions about applications will be directed to artists from staff via email.

 

WHO CAN USE THE ST. JOHNS COUNTY DIRECTORY OF THE ARTS?

The directory is an on-line resource that is open and free to the public. They key audiences are arts organizations, arts presenters, curators, designers, artists, architects, developers, community groups, and businesses.  Please review our Content Policy and Privacy Policy listed in the application before using the directory.

 

IS THERE A FEE TO USE THE DIRECTORY?

There is no cost to artists to join the directory and no cost to browse the directory.

 

HOW DOES AN ARTIST, CULTURAL ORGANIZATION OR VENUE JOIN THE DIRECTORY?

 

There are five steps to the application:

 

1. Download the appropriate application for you or your organization

2. Input Bio and complete the Application Form

3. Return to Cultural Council (mail us or fax

4. E Mail “artist worksamples” and/or logos to:    stjohnscultural@bellsouth.net 

5. We will review, approve and post application when website goes live (Q-1, 2008)
