… for
all your help at the workshop on Saturday!
It was such a wonderful
gathering and the group’s commitment was absolutely incredible: We had a 90%
attendance rate of those who had pre-registered; in addition, we had 10
additional participants register at the door - for a total of 75 attendees!
We want to thank Sherron Long from the Florida Cultural Alliance and all the
volunteers who made the day such a success. If you can, please
drop Sherron a note to let her know what you
thought of the workshop.
We’ve received quite a few
calls and e mails subsequent to the meeting, so I’m happy to provide this
report and summary of NEXT STEPS:
1) While we are anxious to
get started, we don’t want to do so until we are 100% sure of what was agreed
upon in the meeting. We are going to wait for the notes from Sherron Long which should arrive within the next 10 days
and take a careful look at them.
2) We will organize our
efforts around your top priorities for the Cultural Council.
3) Generally, our impression
is that you are interested in having the Cultural Council focus on the following
four areas:
a) Serve as a “clearinghouse” for arts communications (dynamic and
comprehensive website);
b) Become designated as the official Local Arts Agency for
c) Help lobby for the arts, and;
d) Assist artists and organization with grants and funding research.
4) Once we have analyzed Sherron’s notes and your priorities we will set up a few
sub-committees. We will be back in touch with some of you who have expressed an
interest to work in some of these areas with us. In fact, in some cases we are
already working on some of the strategies.
5) Once we have some progress
to report, we will be back in touch with you to set a date for the next
meeting.
6) As promised, attached are
the names, titles and e-mail addresses for all of Saturday’s participants.
We encourage you to “contact
and connect” with these wonderfully enthusiastic arts advocates. Together you
can expand and promote the quality and quantity of the arts in
Again, on behalf of the
entire board of directors from the St. Johns Cultural Council, please accept
our warm regards and sincere thanks for your involvement and
commitment to help advance and promote the arts in
Together we will make the difference!
Cordially,
Philip McDaniel
